Mechanism of action

Inhibits lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase (CYP51), blocking ergosterol synthesis. Broad-spectrum triazole with activity against Aspergillus and Mucorales.

Side effects & warnings

Hepatotoxicity — monitor LFTs. QTc shortening (unlike other azoles). Drug interactions via CYP3A4. Limited but growing veterinary data.
