Mustela putorius furo
Pocket Pet · Typical weight 0.60–2.00 kg
Ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) are obligate carnivores whose drug pharmacokinetics resemble cat more than rodent or rabbit — especially relevant for sedatives (xylazine clearance is closer to feline) and analgesics (good buprenorphine and fentanyl tolerance). Insulinoma is the headline endocrine disease; medical management runs on prednisone with diazoxide as adjunct. Adrenal disease is similarly endemic; deslorelin implants are the contemporary standard. Aleutian disease and influenza are notable infectious considerations.
