Bird · Typical weight 0.531.60 kg

Clinical context for peregrine falcon dosing

Peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus) have the deepest published pharmacokinetic literature of any raptor, largely from Middle Eastern falcon hospital practice. Aspergillosis is the single most significant infectious disease of captive falcons and the reason antifungal dosing in this species is unusually well characterised. Bumblefoot is graded clinically and its management is well described in the falcon literature. Falcons are high-performance athletes in falconry use, so weight management is deliberate and tightly controlled — a bird's flying weight may sit well below the species range, which makes dosing on the measured weight essential rather than advisory.
