Bupropion is dosed at 2–4 mg/kg PO q12h in african grey parrots, per Seibert LM, Manual of Parrot Behavior, 2006. Verify against current literature before clinical use.
Inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine. Minimal serotonergic activity. Used off-label for feather-destructive behavior in birds.
Lowers seizure threshold — contraindicated in patients with seizure history. May cause agitation, tremors, and appetite suppression. Narrow therapeutic index in small species.
