Thiabendazole is dosed at 100–200 mg/kg PO q24h in guinea pigs, per Beck W, Pantchev N. Praktische Parasitologie bei Heimtieren, Schluetersche Verlagsgesellschaft MBH & Co, Hannover, Germany; 2006. Verify against current literature before clinical use.
Inhibits fumarate reductase in nematode mitochondria, disrupting energy metabolism. Also has anti-fungal properties.
Generally well tolerated. GI upset possible. Not effective against all parasite species. Largely superseded by newer benzimidazoles.
