Atenolol Liquid Compounded is dosed at 0.2–2 mg/kg PO q24h in guinea pigs, per Carpenter's Exotic Animal Formulary, 6th ed., Table 9.5 Cardiovascular Agents Used in Rodents, p.794. Selective beta-1 adrenergic antagonist that decreases heart rate, contractility, and AV conduction. Compounded liquid enables precise dosing in cats and small exotics.
Do not abruptly discontinue (rebound tachycardia). Contraindicated in decompensated CHF, bradycardia, and AV block. Monitor heart rate and blood pressure. Stability varies by formulation.
