Mechanism of action

Lipid conjugate of cidofovir. Converted intracellularly to cidofovir diphosphate which inhibits viral DNA polymerase. Broad dsDNA virus activity.

Side effects & warnings

GI upset (diarrhea, nausea). Less nephrotoxic than IV cidofovir. Approved for smallpox. Potential use for adenovirus, CMV. No veterinary data.
