Bird · Anser anser domesticus · typical adult weight 4.00–10.00 kg
Marbofloxacin is dosed at 5 mg/kg IM (thigh muscle) not stated in source in geese, per Abo-EL-Sooud K, Swielim GA, EL-Gammal SM, et al. Comparative Pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of marbofloxacin in geese (Anser anser domesticus) after two sites of intramuscular administrations. J Vet Pharmacol Ther. 2020;43(4):313-318. — PRINTED DETAIL MISSING FROM THIS RULE (retrieved 2026-08-19): We recommend the thigh muscle as IM site of injection to obtain maximum concentrations of the administered drug in geese. — Abo-El-Sooud et al, J Vet Pharmacol Ther 2020;43(4):313-318, PMID 32162309; missing: 21 CFR 530.41(a) "The following drugs … are prohibited for extralabel animal and human drug uses in food-producing animals" — "(10) Fluoroquinolones". Marbofloxacin is used in geese for Susceptible Gram-negative bacterial infection. Routes documented in geese: IM (thigh muscle). A typical adult goose weighs 4.00–10.00 kg. ExoticRx lists 1 cited dose rule for Marbofloxacin in geese, drawn from published veterinary references. Verify against current literature before clinical use.

Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication. Concentration-dependent bactericidal.
Avoid in growing animals (cartilage damage). May lower seizure threshold. Avoid concurrent NSAIDs in dehydrated patients.
Species-specific contraindications and adverse-reaction reports for geese may differ from canine / feline reference data — consult the primary citations listed with each rule.
Marbofloxacin dose range in geese, with cited source references: IM (thigh muscle) 5 mg/kg not stated in source. Reference ranges from cited sources — verify against current literature before clinical use.
Documented routes for Marbofloxacin in geese: IM (thigh muscle).
Marbofloxacin is indicated in geese for: Susceptible Gram-negative bacterial infection.
These are general warnings for Marbofloxacin across species; consult the goose dosing table above for species-specific guidance. Avoid in growing animals (cartilage damage). May lower seizure threshold. Avoid concurrent NSAIDs in dehydrated patients.
Why a species-specific page? Marbofloxacin pharmacokinetics differ across species: dose ranges, intervals, and route preferences are not interchangeable. Cross-extrapolation from canine doses is unsafe in geese — the rules above are the citations specific to this species, not generic recommendations.
