Trileptal
Prodrug rapidly converted to active metabolite (MHD) which blocks voltage-sensitive sodium channels and modulates high-voltage-activated calcium channels. Related to carbamazepine but better tolerated.
Risk of hyponatremia. Cross-sensitivity with carbamazepine possible. Monitor sodium levels. Limited veterinary experience.
