Mechanism of action

Inhibits dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) in folate synthesis pathway. Synergistic bactericidal activity when combined with sulfonamides.

Side effects & warnings

Almost always used in combination with a sulfonamide. Folate supplementation recommended in cats and during pregnancy. KCS risk in dogs.
