Clinical context
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories are the backbone of veterinary analgesia and anti-inflammatory therapy, but species-specific COX-selectivity profiles and renal-handling differences make extrapolation dangerous. Cats lack glucuronyl transferase isoforms used to clear most NSAIDs (the paracetamol case is canonical). Reptile NSAID pharmacokinetics are sparse; meloxicam has the best species-specific data. Always pair with renal monitoring, especially in dehydrated or geriatric patients.
