Mechanism of Action
Nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate that inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption by binding to hydroxyapatite and inducing osteoclast apoptosis.
Side effects & warnings
Esophageal irritation risk — give with water, keep upright. May cause jaw osteonecrosis rarely. Used in cats for idiopathic hypercalcemia.
