Dual mechanism: blocks NMDA receptor glycine recognition site and enhances GABA-A receptor function. Also blocks voltage-dependent sodium channels.
Risk of aplastic anemia and hepatotoxicity in humans — monitor CBC and liver enzymes. Veterinary use for refractory epilepsy. Drug interactions with phenobarbital and other AEDs.
