Fludrocortisone is dosed at 0.05–0.1 mg/kg PO q24h or divided q12h in ferrets, per Shoemaker NJ, van Zeeland YR.A, Quesenberry KE, et al. Synthetic corticosteroid with potent mineralocorticoid activity promoting sodium retention and potassium excretion at the distal tubule. Also has glucocorticoid activity.
Monitor electrolytes (Na/K ratio). Dose escalation over time is common. May cause PU/PD, weight gain, hypertension. Used for hypoadrenocorticism (Addison's).
