Coccidiostat; contraindicated with dehydration, liver disease, renal disease; treatment >2 wk may require folic acid supplementation (Carpenter's Exotic Animal Formulary 6th ed p.442). Sulfonamide drugs are prohibited for extralabel use in lactating dairy cattle, except approved uses of sulfadimethoxine, sulfabromomethazine and sulfaethoxypyridazine (21 CFR 530.41(a)(9)).
