Amlodipine Besylate is dosed at 0.1–0.5 mg/kg PO q24h in rabbits, per Carpenter's Exotic Animal Formulary, 6th Ed. Verify against current literature before clinical use.
Selectively blocks L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle causing vasodilation. Reduces systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure.
First-line antihypertensive in cats. Dose-dependent hypotension. Gingival hyperplasia reported in dogs. Monitor blood pressure regularly.
