Inhibits MurA (enolpyruvyl transferase), the first step in peptidoglycan synthesis. Unique mechanism with no cross-resistance.
Single-dose for uncomplicated UTI. GI upset (diarrhea). Resistance can develop rapidly — avoid monotherapy for serious infections.
