Binds to lipopolysaccharide in gram-negative bacterial outer membrane causing cell lysis. Bactericidal and concentration-dependent.
Highly nephrotoxic and neurotoxic systemically. Topical use is safer. Reserve systemic use for MDR gram-negative infections.
