Prazosin is dosed at 0.5 mg/rabbit (total dose, NOT mg/kg) PO q12h in rabbits, per Lempert M. Urinary obstruction due to prostatic abscess in a young neutered rabbit. Selective alpha-1 adrenergic blocker causing arterial and venous vasodilation. Also relaxes urethral smooth muscle and prostatic capsule.
First-dose syncope (start low). Used for urethral relaxation, systemic hypertension, and heart failure afterload reduction. Reflex tachycardia possible.
