Sertraline is dosed at 2–4 mg/kg PO q12-24h in african grey parrots, per Carpenter's Exotic Animal Formulary, 6th Ed. Verify against current literature before clinical use.
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor with mild dopamine reuptake inhibition. Potent SSRI used for anxiety and compulsive disorders.
Used for separation anxiety, noise phobias, compulsive behaviors. 4-6 weeks for full effect. Serotonin syndrome risk. GI upset common initially. Do not use with MAO inhibitors.
