Sildenafil is dosed at 5 mg/kg PO q24h in pet rats, per Knafo ES. Sildenafil citrate as a pulmonary protectant in chronic murine Mycoplasma pulmonis infection. Inhibits phosphodiesterase-5, preventing cGMP breakdown in pulmonary vascular smooth muscle, causing pulmonary vasodilation.
Used for pulmonary hypertension in dogs. Hypotension possible. CONTRAINDICATED with nitrates. Monitor systemic blood pressure. Give with or without food.
