Anticholinergic (parasympatholytic) agent that reduces GI smooth muscle spasm by blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the GI tract, decreasing motility and secretions.
May cause anticholinergic side effects: dry mouth, urinary retention, tachycardia, mydriasis. Contraindicated in GI obstruction and glaucoma. Use cautiously in patients with cardiac disease.
