Mechanism of action

Selectively blocks the EP4 prostaglandin receptor, the primary mediator of osteoarthritis pain and inflammation, without broadly inhibiting COX enzymes.

Side effects & warnings

Dogs only. Novel mechanism — does not broadly inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. Vomiting is most common adverse effect. Not for use with other NSAIDs.

Species-specific contraindications and adverse-reaction reports for dog may differ from canine / feline reference data — consult the primary citations listed with each rule.

Other Analgesic drugs with dog dosing

Why a species-specific page? Grapiprant pharmacokinetics differ across species: dose ranges, intervals, and route preferences are not interchangeable. Cross-extrapolation from canine doses is unsafe in dog — the rules above are the citations specific to this species, not generic recommendations.
