Bifunctional alkylating agent that cross-links DNA strands, interfering with DNA replication and transcription. Preferentially affects granulocyte precursors.

Side effects & warnings

Severe myelosuppression — monitor CBC closely. Pulmonary fibrosis with chronic use. Hepatotoxicity (sinusoidal obstruction syndrome). Limited veterinary use for polycythemia vera and CML.
