Prednisolone Oral is dosed at 0.5–1 mg/kg PO q12-24h in dogs, per Papich MG. Saunders Handbook of Veterinary Drugs, Prednisolone, Prednisolone Acetate, Small Animal Dosage — Dogs, printed p.669 (corpus p.697). Verify against current literature before clinical use.
Active glucocorticoid (does not require hepatic conversion unlike prednisone). Preferred in cats (poor prednisone-to-prednisolone conversion).
Preferred over prednisone in cats and patients with hepatic disease. Same side effects as other glucocorticoids: PU/PD, polyphagia, iatrogenic Cushing's.
