Hydrochlorothiazide is dosed at 1 mg/kg p.o. q72 h in veiled chameleons, per Divers SJ. Clinician's approach to renal disease in lizards. Inhibits sodium-chloride cotransporter in distal convoluted tubule. Reduces renal calcium excretion (useful in calcium oxalate stone prevention).
Hypokalemia, hyponatremia risk. Monitor electrolytes. Less potent diuretic than furosemide. Used with furosemide for diuretic resistance.
