Mechanism of Action

Inhibits sodium-chloride cotransporter in distal convoluted tubule. Reduces renal calcium excretion (useful in calcium oxalate stone prevention).

Side effects & warnings

Hypokalemia, hyponatremia risk. Monitor electrolytes. Less potent diuretic than furosemide. Used with furosemide for diuretic resistance.
