Piroxicam is dosed at 0.3 mg/kg PO q24h in dogs, per Knapp DW, Richardson RC, Chan TC, et al. Piroxicam therapy in 34 dogs with transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Non-selective COX inhibitor. Also has anti-tumor properties via COX-independent mechanisms (apoptosis, anti-angiogenic).
Used primarily as adjunctive cancer therapy (transitional cell carcinoma). GI ulceration common. Renal toxicity. Give with food. Concurrent use of misoprostol recommended.
