Mechanism of action

Reactivates acetylcholinesterase by cleaving organophosphate from enzyme active site. Must be given before aging occurs (irreversible binding).

Side effects & warnings

Give within 24-48 hours of organophosphate exposure (before aging). Always co-administer atropine. Not effective for carbamate poisoning (unnecessary). Slow IV push.

Species-specific contraindications and adverse-reaction reports for dog may differ from canine / feline reference data — consult the primary citations listed with each rule.

Why a species-specific page? Pralidoxime pharmacokinetics differ across species: dose ranges, intervals, and route preferences are not interchangeable. Cross-extrapolation from canine doses is unsafe in dog — the rules above are the citations specific to this species, not generic recommendations.
