Clinical context for leopard gecko dosing
Leopard geckos (Eublepharis macularius) are nocturnal ectotherms with a POTZ around 25–30 °C, which means slower drug clearance than active diurnal lizards even before accounting for husbandry errors. Cryptosporidium saurophilum (formerly C. varanii) is endemic in pet populations — paromomycin is the most-cited treatment despite limited evidence of cure. Calcium-deficient diets and inadequate UV-B drive nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism; calcium gluconate is acute treatment, with husbandry correction the long-term fix.
